Lexington, MA 2420
This state holiday, celebrated on the third Monday in April, commemorates the Boston-area events that touched off the Revolutionary War. The original date of this holiday, April 19, stems from a celebration of the colonial victories in the battles of Lexington and Concord after the militia had gathered in response to the midnight call to readiness by Paul Revere and others. Lanterns are displayed from the Old North Church and battles are re-enacted in Lexington and Concord. The holiday is also the date of the Boston Marathon.
