Don't Just Stand There! With Sean Sullivan
The ImprovBoston TheaterDecember 28, 2014 1:00 PM
40 Prospect Street
Cambridge, MA 02139
Don't Just Stand There! with Sean Sullivan This workshop will tackle the dilemma facing every player waiting in the wings during an improv scene: what can I do to enhance the scene without detracting from it? Group work requires risk-taking, and supporting your scene partners from the sideline can clarify, focus, and heighten scenework and reinforce group mind. Students will take advantage of the full ensemble in grounded scenework, taking cues from environment, emotion, and character through walk-ons and sideline gift-giving. Students practice on throwing gas on the fire by reacting from the wings and sharpen their editing skills with tap-outs and walk-ons that benefit the entire ensemble in both game-based and longform formats. Split-scenes add to on-the-fly editing to smooth out clunky transitions and reinforce thematic structures. +++ (Required improv experience: Completion of Improv 201 or equivalent.) $45 per person. Maximum: 14 students Day/Time: Sunday 1PM - 330PM Class Dates: December 28, 2014 Student Showcase: None Class Location: ImprovBoston Main Theater   Bio: A native Rhode Islander sans accent, Sean Sullivan has been performing and teaching and watching and being improv about as long as you'd imagine from someone who wrote a bio. He played on the Face Off cast from 2008-09 before moving to Chicago, where he currently is a member of the ensemble at ComedySportz Chicago and house team coach at the theater. He has performed on the Harold team Bear Bones at iO; other credits include shows with the Annoyance and Playground theaters. He is currently a Contributor and member of the Writers Group with The Onion News Network.

Badfish, A Tribute To Sublime
The SinclairDecember 28, 2014 8:30 PM

Bradley Nowell, lead singer/songwriter for the seminal band Sublime, may have died prematurely, but the soul-filled music he wrote for Sublime lives on because of Badfish: A Tribute To Sublime. The members met while attending the University of Rhode Island in 2001; five years after Nowell's passing. The trio plays all of Sublime's timeless songs like "Santeria" and "Wrong Way." When the members of Badfish feel the urge to write original songs they perform them in the group Scotty Don't.
