A melting pot of historic landmarks, churches, theaters, restaurants, bars and live music venues, Central Square has the right entertainment quotient for the people of Cambridge. Its original population had people coming from the England and Canada, and it was between 1850 and 1890 that they started to get Irish immigrants as well. The cultural mix of the square during the late 19th century witnessed people from other locations coming in - from Europe, South America and Africa. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on March 2, 1990.
