Surrounded by the hustle and bustle of the marketplace in Varberg, Varbergs Kyrka serves as an active institution of faith to the locals. The church was rebuilt during 1769-1772 after it was destroyed in the city fire in 1767. This church is believed to be one of the oldest and biggest churches in the parish of Varberg. Built in neoclassical style, the interiors are adorned with a 19th-century pulpit, glass painting by the artist Johan Thomas Skovgaard, a wooden baptismal font and a sacristy as old as 1961.
Varberg is located south of Gothenburg, and is a lovely spa and summer resort. In Varberg you surf without a mouse; one of Sweden's best areas for surfers is situated here. For the young children there is a shallow-water beach next to Kallbadhuset. If you like shopping, visit the arts and crafts centre at Hamnmagasinet, which sells silver and glass items, amongst other things. The beautiful stone church, Falkenburg Kryka is located on Nygatan - a commanding presence, thanks to its impressive Gothic Revival facade. The church is located at the town center and was consecrated in 1892. Over the years, it has been renovated a couple to times to meet the requirements of the cohort era. Nevertheless, the interiors are just as impressive as the exteriors, some interesting artworks inside include the baptismal font of 1885 and the crucifix designed by artist Tore Heby. As such, Falkenbergs Kyrka belongs to the Diocese of Gothenburg, and still offers regular worship and services such as baptisms, communions, weddings and such.
The history of this beautiful church can be traced from 1300s. Situated in Falkenberg old town, this church was the towns parish church during that era and was later burnt down during the period of northern seven years’ wars (1563-1570). After the wars, the church was rebuilt with the help of taxes from people. This building was replaced with another church in 1892 and was used as concert and gymnastics hall. Saint Lawrence church went through major renovations in 1903 and was used for religious purposes from 1928 to present times.
Opened in 1964, Hedevi Idrottsplats is a popular sporting venue comprising of a main football ground and a tennis court. On a tournament day, sports buffs can be seen here raving for their favorite players as they battle it out for the trophy.
With its sweeping gardens and historical castle, Tjolöholm Slottshallen is a wonderful location for conventions, conferences, weddings and other large events. In addition to being open to the public for tours, the space can be rented out and the on-site restaurant, The Storstugan, provides excellent food for any event.
