Hold These Truths
Skinner Studio TheaterMarch 01, 2015 3:00 PM
1714 Delancey Place
Philadelphia, PA 19103
A little-known American hero steps into the spotlight in playwright Jeanne Sakata's eloquent one-man show, "Hold These Truths". The titular "truths" in question are the civil rights proclaimed in the Declaration of Independence and later enshrined in the Constitution. The man doing the holding, despite enormous pressures from his own government, is one Gordon Hirabayashi. When the government decides to mass incarcerate all people of Japanese ancestry on the West Coast, it is Hirabayashi -- a Quaker college student and conscientious objector -- who decides to fight for the rights of "all" Americans. Join him on his journey toward a greater understanding of America's triumphs and failings when Makoto Hirano stars in this Plays & Players production, giving voice to more than 30 different characters in the regional premiere of "Hold These Truths".
