In writing "Great Expectations", Charles Dickens crammed all of life between the covers of a book. In staging "Great Expectations", Arden Theatre Company attempts to do the same ... but on stage ... using a cast of "six". In this production of the classic novel, the small-but-nimble cast quick-changes their way through nearly 40 characters to recreate one of the most captivating tales ever told. Orphaned as an infant and thrust into a childhood of cruel poverty, Pip clings to the hope of a brighter life. Then one winter night, Pip learns that an anonymous benefactor has anointed him heir to a tremendous fortune, setting into motion a life's journey beyond his wildest dreams and harsh lessons about love, family, social class and upward mobility in Victorian London.
