It is not so much the food, which is mostly traditional Swedish dishes, but the atmosphere and history that everyone comes to soak up here. This legendary restaurant/club/bar has been around for three generations. Jazz is its trademark, and the whole range, from traditional jazz to soul and acid jazz, can be enjoyed here. Have dinner before the show; that way you do not have to pay the entrance fee and are guaranteed a place in the evening's performance. The place also organizes weekly After Work Jazz sessions from 7p. The admission is free. In the evenings, it turns into a hip club with a different theme every night.
Tre Remmare is the largest "folk casino" in Sweden, where you can play every day, all year, until the wee hours of the morning. It is crowded all the time. Close to the restaurant there is a wine cellar, where all the bottles are visible through a glass wall. If you are a fan of Ol' Blue Eyes, you can listen to his music at the Frank Sinatra Bar.
This old dance pavilion has been transformed into a posh nightclub. Businessmen and younger bon vivants make up the crowd, and there is usually some serious partying going on. The interior design is pure nightclub, with a section of big round tables where you can talk without being disturbed by the music. There is also a secluded bar with its own music, and a big dance floor where you can dance to the hit music.
Run by TV celebrity, Matte Carlsson, Le Bon Palais brings to you a fantastic atmosphere, lots of fun, music, cool drinks and a very happening crowd. For a feel of a typical Irish tavern, The Foggy Dew bar is the perfect place. It's a cozy joint with live music, sports and the quintessential Irish beer. Sit and have a beer or two with the locals and if you are lucky, you may just see leprechauns dancing around, in the corner.
A good mix of bands, both known and unknown, play live music. DJ´s pump the latest in heavy metal and old classics.
It is the decor that sets the mood for this lively bar and restaurant called Golden Hits. With wooden furnishings, stained-glass backdrops, diffused lighting, musical instruments hanging down from the ceiling, ABBA posters and the gramophone record, this is one groovy venue. Golden Hits is a perfect place with an awesome crowd, great food and live music.
Tre Backar is the place where many established Swedish bands held their first performance. Upstairs there are two dining rooms, where the inner room is the coziest one with books lining the walls, giving it a library feeling. It is an ideal place to sit and chat, and is mostly frequented by students. The food is reasonably priced and the wide beer selection is renowned.
Like an oasis in the middle of the city, between the bustling streets of Malmskillnadsgatan och Regeringsgatan, Glenn Miller Café has been a haven for jazz lovers ever since. Without changing the style or altering the decor, this place has managed to stay popular for generations. On certain nights, live jazz is played by high brow bands. Mostly, jazz lovers bring their own favorite jazz records to play on vinyl, of course. They would consider CD-players an insult. The venue is very small but extremely pleasant. The walls are covered with jazz photos and instruments. The food is mainly American. On the menu are burgers and steaks, but also more original and innovative crossover style meals.
