Bars & Cafes
It is not so much the food, which is mostly traditional Swedish dishes, but the atmosphere and history that everyone comes to soak up here. This legendary restaurant/club/bar has been around for three generations. Jazz is its trademark, and the whole range, from traditional jazz to soul and acid jazz, can be enjoyed here. Have dinner before the show; that way you do not have to pay the entrance fee and are guaranteed a place in the evening's performance. The place also organizes weekly After Work Jazz sessions from 7p. The admission is free. In the evenings, it turns into a hip club with a different theme every night.
Whenever some sort of sporting event is coming up, footballer Anders Limpar's Limp-Bar comes to life with special deals at the bar and on the menu. A pint of beer is found in every guest's hands and their eyes are clearly fixed onto the wide-screen TV. Simple, moderately priced lunches are served all the time, regardless of the sporting season, and the same applies for the After-Work menu.
Flavored, fresh-roasted coffee served with cream, chocolate, mint or cinnamon - that's an example of what's on the menu. Several coffee-based drinks are also served at Robert's Coffee. The world's finest, most expensive coffee is right here. Couple that with a yummy pastry. Breeze through some foreign magazines or just observe the city pass by as you enjoy your coffee. There's outdoor seating in the summer.
Tre Remmare is the largest "folk casino" in Sweden, where you can play every day, all year, until the wee hours of the morning. It is crowded all the time. Close to the restaurant there is a wine cellar, where all the bottles are visible through a glass wall. If you are a fan of Ol' Blue Eyes, you can listen to his music at the Frank Sinatra Bar.
Nestled within the Nordic Sea Hotel, this permanent ice bar is really worth a visit. Continuously maintaining the minus five degree Celsius temperature, this restaurant has a different ambiance to it. You have to don a special garb, which is part of the package they offer. The interior consists of everything made of ice: check out the ice glass brought all the way from the Torne River in Sweden. A full menu featuring food and beverages that are yours for the taking is available here. Reservations are strictly recommended, except on Fridays and Saturdays. Please check the website for timings.
Open for lunch, dinner, and late-night drinks, this downtown Stockholm bistro and bar is a treat for the senses. There is a wide variety of alcohol to choose from and the chef definitely whips up some delicious food to go with it.
The first Bishop Arms pub opened in Västerås in 1993. You can try the pub's own single-malt whiskey and the English pub food. The pub also arranges theme nights when you can try different varieties of beers and also is famous for its members club called The Bishop Arms Malt Whiskey Club.
Café Element is well worth a visit—the food and the décor are both great. Opt for a delicious snack from the diverse menu—the cafe is especially popular for its hot chocolate and chocolate milkshake. The toasted sandwiches and cinnamon rolls also deserve a special mention.
Not only is this a very nice café on Drottning gatan, but it's also located on a fun street to visit with many international shops and food places. Have a nice latté and eat at the yummy Swedish bakery. Watch all kinds of people walk by, and then continue your stroll down the street!
Zesty's décor is in itself worth a visit. The modern and stylised interior and furniture come from the exclusive design shop London W8. Guests are given Palm Pilots to place their orders, a novel and fun idea; no more waiting to catch the attention of waiting staff! Although the prices are high, so are their culinary ambitions, and the results are excellent. Altogether, everything adds up to an atmosphere of modern luxury—please dress accordingly.
