Blå Hallen, or the Blue Hall, is the crown jewel of the Stockholm City Hall. Designed by the architect Ragnar Östberg, this magnificent banquet hall is best known as the venue of the annual Nobel Banquet, which is attended by not only that year's Noble Prize recipients, but also by members of the Swedish Royal Family and high profile government officials. Despite what its name may suggest, Blå Hallen is in fact composed of unfinished, red brick walls, Östberg originally intended to have the walls plastered and painted blue, however he later changed his mind in favor of the regal red hue of the bare bricks. A graceful staircase leads up to the balcony draped along one side of the hall. Blå Hallen is also home to Scandinavia's largest musical instrument - a glorious pipe organs made up of close to 10,000 pipes.
