»Amphitrite, the wave and the sea birds

Nestled by Porsgrunn river's eastern bank, Amphitrite, the wave and the sea birds remains an arresting sculpture. Standing tall at 4 meters (13 feet), it is built to the designs of noted Norwegian sculptor Jørleif Uthaug. The sculpture features a nude figure of a female who represents Neptune' wife, Amphitrite and two seabirds seen descending over a gigantic wave. Unveiled in the year 1985, the sculpture is considered to be one of the most celebrated art works of Uthaug and also one of the few ones to feature figurative aspects.
