The municipality of Tønsberg derives its name from the Norse word Túnsberg meaning a fenced garden. Regarded as one of the oldest towns in Norway, Tønsberg is home to Haugar Art MUseum, Foynegården, Ruins of St. Olav church, Sem Church and the Tønsberg Cathedral. Located in the Vestfold county, the town has its own share of schools, hospitals and recreation centers for locals and tourists. The beautiful Nordic beaches, lush green landscape and a likeable climate is what Tønsberg is all about. Check the official website for detailed information.
As a tribute to the fallen sailors of the World Wars I and II, The Hall of Remembrance or Minnehallen was constructed by the government in the form of a stone pyramid. It stands lonely near the coast as a beacon to the martyrs. The inside of the hall contains copper tablets in memory of the dead. An epitaph written by Herman Wildenweys is also inscribed on the altar.
