The Meambar Cerro Azul National Park (Parque Nacional Cerro Azul Meámbar) is approximately 400 square kilometers stretch of untouched natural beauty. The wooded area is made up of three different types of forest - coniferous forest area, forest land and broadleaf forest. In these three forested areas, there are five different ecosystems thriving - evergreen tropical mixed lower montane forest, seasonal evergreen tropical lower montane broadleaf forest, boque tropical broadleaf evergreen upper montane forest, farming system and boque aciculifoliado seasonal evergreen tropical submontane forest. The forest is beautifully thriving with a healthy wildlife of mountain cats, bats, frogs and toads, raccoons, deer, goldfinch, toucans, and many more. The forest is home to at least 80 species of birds and innumerable animals and insects. The forest is popular with nature enthusiasts, hikers, trekkers, bird-watchers, adventure-seekers and the likes. It's a great place to visit to enjoy what nature has to offer.
One of the very few botanical gardens in the city, the Jardin Botanico Lancetilla is a must visit for all the nature lovers. This garden is spread over 1681 hectares and houses several rare plants and trees that are worth looking at. With a well maintained collection of about 1500 species of tropical decorative and fruiting plants, the gardens are a study house for many leading botanists. A tour of the Jardin Botanico Lancetilla offers information on several species of plants and makes for a great place to take a breather from the hectic life.
