The Taj Mahal Trio is a blues ensemble formed and led by legendary modern blues man Taj Mahal. San Francisco-based outfit Castle is a doom metal band that formed in 2009. Fronted by female vocalist Elizabeth Blackwell, the band released its 2011 debut album, In Witch Order, and captured the metal scene's attention with its seamless fusion of doom and death metal. The record reached beyond the US and into European audiences, particularly after it was named album of the year by one of Norway's leading metal magazines, Metal Hammer Norway. Castle dropped its follow-up record, Blacklands, in 2012.
Based in Brooklyn, Celestial Shore crafts a sun-dazed space rock sound, much like its name suggest. However, the group allows the grittier flavors of its hometown to season its songs, ultimately filtering its music through a polluted, urbanized lens that give its otherwise breezy tunes a distant, faraway feeling. Celestial shore released its debut album, 10x in 2013, before fully mastering its contradictory sound on the 2014 offering, Enter Ghost.
