»Kavárna Merkur

Popular with a twenty something or thirty something crowd of trendy professionals and free-spirited artist types, the café (by name) stacks up more like a restaurant/bar. Cleverly prepared Czech dishes are combined with continental dishes to create a solid menu offering something for everyone. Lunches draw a good crowd and seating is rarely a problem while evenings tend to draw groups stopping off for after dinner drinks as much as for a meal. The space often fills up in the evenings after the adjoining Dlouha Theater empties out. Huge windows close in both sides of this large corner joint of checkered floors and hip furnishings which tend to entice passers-by in the passage to stop off for one before heading on.

»Chez Marcel

You'd be forgiven for thinking you were in Paris instead of Prague when you walk in here. All the classic bistro features can be found, from the red-checkered tablecloths to the white-aproned waiters. The food is hardly an exception either, with omeletes and that bistro staple chicken with fries. Slightly more fancy is the duck with olives and potatoes. The staff is friendly and efficient.

»La Casa Blu

Extremely popular with seemingly everyone under 40, this pub-cum cantina succeeds both as a lively place to drink and socialize and as a relatively inexpensive place to eat some simply prepared south of the border food. Vegetarian versions are also offered. Décor is festive Latino kitsch, and a gallery in the rear features art from local artists. Prague's small Latin community has made this their home away from home so if you're in the mood to practice or pick up some Spanish, this is the spot. Those still inside after the door closes at midnight can usually stay at least another hour or two.

Kozička is frequented by hungry local patrons till wee hours of the morning and they do not hesitate in recommending the place to visitors as well. The restaurant is known for their delicious local cuisine served in a rustic ambiance. For a restaurant, the place is quite dimly lit which gives it the look and feel of a speakeasy, wooden tables and modest chairs, exposed-brick walls and hues of green make the place look very charming. This is a perfect spot for a meal with a date, where interesting conversations can happen effortlessly.
