Cieszyn is one of the oldest towns in Poland.  According to its history, three brothers arrived in this town in 810 and named it Cieszyn, from the Polish phrase "cieszym się" (meaning "we're happy").  The town was divided into two parts, the left-bank being part of the Czech Republic (known as Český Těšín).  Together, the towns constitute an important transit center on the Czech-Polish border.
