»Cafe Mono

Cafe Mono is the quintessential bar where you feel at home after a day's work. Cozy wooden tables, settings from a traditional old fashioned western bar and beer seems to be the theme here. Sit back and enjoy the varied music played here by upcoming local musicians as well as some foreign bands for a change! You will have to pay an entry fee on the concert days. Overall a good place to be in with friends. You'll just have to compromise with their dusty collections of antique accessories. After you down a few beers, the world will look rosy anyway!

What's could be better than listening to some of the best DJs in Norway while surrounded by plenty of food, alcohol, and beautiful people? Perhaps doing all of that 12 stories above the ground, atop the historic Folkteateret building, with a beautiful panoramic view of the bustling city of Oslo would be an improvement. This is the premise of Stratos. For most of the year it is rented out for weddings or corporate events, but during certain holidays and the summer months it opens up to the public as a nightclub featuring live music, DJs, and an unforgettable view. Call or email for table reservations.

»Club Barongsai

The extraordinary Indonesian interior inside this venue is matched by its unusual name. Barongsai is the colorful Lion Dance that has been performed for centuries by Chinese people the world over. While Club Barongsai may not be filled with people wearing lion costumes dancing to the sounds of gongs and fire-crackers, it does attract a lively crowd of young hip-hoppers, who pulsate to 21st-century urban tunes. Originally the club operated illegally from the basement of a skater shop, but eventually they were given a license, so just like the Lion Dance, this club should help to entertain crowds for years to come.

»Justisen Bar & Restaurant

This old, working-class inn is more famous than its unremarkable appearance would suggest. This is mainly because it has a longer history than most places in Oslo, and because it has been the favorite watering hole of the youth of Norway's Labor Party. But it is also known as the restaurant that serves the cheapest lutefisk (a traditional dish of cod that is preserved in lye, and has a distinctive taste) in the festive season. The bar is good, even if it is not cheap, and the building dating from 1820 has the cozy air of old pubs. There are also infrequent concerts, most often jazz and gypsy music.
