At Baltazar you can dine in the historical surroundings of the old Bazaar, directly behind Oslo Cathedral. The interior of this restaurant is simple, but the curved room and the subdued light create a sheltered atmosphere. The menu is international, with an emphasis on Italy and other Mediterranean countries. Seafood as well as meat dishes are served here. After your main course, do try the cheeses.

    »Cafe Bacchus

Bacchus is a Norwegian cafe near the cathedral, close to the main railway station and transport hub of Oslo. A small, picturesque place, it has what could be the city's narrowest staircase, (arguably) best brownies and fabulous wines of which many are organic. It is not cheap, but if you can afford an extra treat, it is well-worth a try to find a seat, often a quest in itself.

    »Cafe Mono

Cafe Mono is the quintessential bar where you feel at home after a day's work. Cozy wooden tables, settings from a traditional old fashioned western bar and beer seems to be the theme here. Sit back and enjoy the varied music played here by upcoming local musicians as well as some foreign bands for a change! You will have to pay an entry fee on the concert days. Overall a good place to be in with friends. You'll just have to compromise with their dusty collections of antique accessories. After you down a few beers, the world will look rosy anyway!

    »Café Sr

Every Tuesday, Norwegian and international musicians meet for one of the most exciting jam sessions Oslo can offer. The warm green and orange colors in here take your mind away from the capital of Norway to cities miles further south, where salsa, Latin rhythms and the North-African raï dance all become natural. The guests at Cafe Sr or Club Sr as it is called on weekends, come from all corners of the world, together creating a unique atmosphere. During the day Cafe Sr offers coffee, tea and cakes; at night it changes into more of a drinking place. The bouncers have a reputation for being strict but fair.

What's could be better than listening to some of the best DJs in Norway while surrounded by plenty of food, alcohol, and beautiful people? Perhaps doing all of that 12 stories above the ground, atop the historic Folkteateret building, with a beautiful panoramic view of the bustling city of Oslo would be an improvement. This is the premise of Stratos. For most of the year it is rented out for weddings or corporate events, but during certain holidays and the summer months it opens up to the public as a nightclub featuring live music, DJs, and an unforgettable view. Call or email for table reservations.

Spread over two floors, the Internasjonalen is a pub born out of minimalism and functionalism. Opened in 2003, this bar and pub is unlike most of the popular joints because it does not have too many of the usual frills and excesses. It has a few blended spirits and beers to offer, which you can perhaps enjoy with some munchies. But little variety does not mean lesser quality. Their cocktails are very popular and creative. Try their Pjolter, a traditional drink, or Agurk Gin and Tonic, or perhaps old favorites like the Manhattan or a Dry Martini. Quite regularly, the Internasjonalen hosts musical performances by several local and visiting artists.
