»Feng Shui and The Traditional Chinese Garden With Liu Ming

January 31, 2015 2:00 PM

The making of palace gardens is the root of traditional Chinese feng shui. In establishing a sense of nation-state identity 2000 years ago the new Chinese rulers ended their nomadic negotiations with the wilderness and created classic qi-harmony gardens to live in. In this class we will look extensively at the Chinese garden and its implied relatedness to Nature (yin/yang, 5 elements) and the invoking, capturing and dispersing of qi. Though modified, copied and standardized over the centuries the Chinese garden is remains a handbook or compendium of feng shui principles that can be applied to landscaping in any context. Come and enjoy Mings unique and lively blend of history, practice and humor join in the 2000-year continuity of the Chinese feng shui tradition!

»Nine Star Ki With Robert Sachs - Three Day Workshop

January 31, 2015 2:00 PM

Nine Star Ki is the Japanese name of an astrological system also used by the Chinese and the Tibetans. Those unfamiliar with this system will learn how to apply its wisdom, while seasoned astrologers and practitioners of feng shui will deepen their elemental understanding and how the elements effect communication at home and work. For feng shui practitioners Nine Star Ki helps explain why clients communicate the way they do and why particular clients can work with some solutions and ideas better than others. We will also explore Nine Star Ki directionology for travel and moving. We are very fortunate to host Robert Sachs in presenting this profound body of knowledge.  Sachs is an international speaker and prolific author on the subjects of Feng Shui, Ayurveda, and Eastern Philosophies.  His book, Nine Star Ki, originally published as The Complete Guide to Nine-Star Ki is considered one of the finest and most useable books on the subject and is available in German, Dutch, Spanish, Greek, and Bulgarian. This three day series will build upon the foundational Nine Star Ki information presented in the December 13th class taught by Manu Butterworth. The December 13th class is a pre-requisite to this series. If you were unable to attend the December 13th class, you will need to listen to the recording of that foundations class prior to these classes.  Please contact us to request this recording.

»The Devil Makes Three & Joe Pug

January 31, 2015 7:00 PM

Mixing traditional folk genres together with an almost punk rock style swagger, The Devil Makes Three is one of the most popular bands in the modern roots music revival. The three piece formed in Santa Cruz, California, deciding to utilize a raw, stripped-down instrumentation setup of just guitar, upright bass and banjo. On its 2002 self-titled debut, The Devil Makes Three displays its knack for crafting old-timey bluegrass jams full of rockabilly elements and high-energy showmanship. The trio's tales of hard drinking and soul searching have struck a chord with fans of several different genres throughout the US and beyond.

In fact, everyone's a suspect, including you. The event starts out with a reception featuring tray-passed hors d'oeuvres, followed by the meal, which includes salad, an entree and dessert. Between courses you can expect plenty of murder, mayhem and hidden clues coming to light as you puzzle through the crime. The top sleuth even wins a prize package at the end of the evening -- not to mention serious bragging rights.
