»Allah Las

November 23, 2014 8:30 PM

Claiming to base its sound on "old, weird Los Angeles," The Allah-Las creates vintage sounding rock and roll, clearly influenced by early-1960s psych and British Invasion music. Formed in the back of an Amoeba Records store in Los Angeles, the group quickly built up a solid fan base in its home city while playing a residency at The Echo, eventually landing a spot on LA Weekly's "Local Bands Who Will Be Huge in 2012" list.

»Dream House: A Rainy Day Play

November 23, 2014 2:00 PM

Curiosity and the power of imagination make a potentially scary day fun in "Dream House: A Rainy Day Play", which follows grown-up Jenn as she returns to the old Philadelphia house where she grew up. With no electricity and no TV, and a thunderstorm rapidly approaching, Jenn only has an assortment of household items to keep her occupied. With memories of the house haunting her, can Jenn learn to use her imagination to fight her grown-up fears? Perfect for kids "ages 4 to 104" (and highly recommended for school-aged children), "Dream House: A Rainy Day Play" is a great way of introducing little ones to the ways in which plays can open up new ways of seeing the world and the people around us.

»Kiss Me, Kate

November 23, 2014 2:30 PM

"Kiss Me, Kate" is Cole Porter's jazzy musical comedy about a former husband-and-wife acting team at war with each other while trying to stage a musical version of Shakespeare's "The Taming of the Shrew". Scenery-chewing director and actor Fred Graham and his ex-wife Lilli Vanessi are a perfect portrayal of a "can't-live-with-'em, can't-live-without-'em" couple, as well as a brilliantly funny rendering of overwrought, egotistical artistic types. The show, whose original 1948 production won five Tonys, including the first-ever award for Best Musical, features classic Cole Porter numbers, such as "Too Darn Hot," "I Hate Men" and "Brush Up Your Shakespeare."
