Andre Coles)Monthly Prize Package includes-Record 1 song or up to 3 hours, whichever comes first provided by Cambridge Sound StudiosAnnual Prize Package includes:-Record a 4-5 song EP (Hours to be discussed with winner, depending on instrumentation)Artists check in at 6:30pm to sign up for a 2-song performance slot. Slots are offered on a first-come basis. Performances begin at 7:00pm and usually end between 11:00 and midnight. Each performance is judged by a panel that includes someone from the WCL music department, the manager on duty and a representative from sponsors. There is usually also one featured performer each evening (not eligible to win) doing an extended set; scheduled featured performers can be found below. Perfomance slots for artists using backing tracks are limited to 4 per weekEach month, the four weekly winners from the previous month will be invited back on a Sunday evening to participate in The Best of Philly Rising, when each artist will have a chance to perform a full set. At each of these shows, the panel will select a single winning act to be awarded the monthly prize package.At the end of the year, all monthly winners compete in the annual showcase on the main stage in Downstairs Live, and one winning act will receive the Annual Prize Package.On occasion, we are forced to postpone the signup time or cancel this event due to private events or public concerts.

Iron Sketch is a monthly competitive sketch show hosted by The Chairman for Philly Improv Theater every 1st Thursday of the month."The Chairman” opens Iron Sketch to anyone provided they will pledge their time & efforts over a single month to writing, producing, and performing ten minutes of original, sketch comedy. Each contestant will be asked to collaborate with randomly assigned teammates and will work under the supervision & direction of a mentor.Each month, twelve respondents will be randomly picked & divided into groups of three. The groups will then have a month to write and develop their show with their assigned mentor. The teams then present their shows to a live audience and star-studded panel of judges!

Death Under Glass allows visitors to take a microscopic look at some of the colorful but dangerous causes of death. Medical examiner Marianne Hamel and forensic photographer Nikki Johnson are the artists of the exhibit. The images show human tissue after death through a 1000-times magnified object lens. Every disease and injury got its own significant shape, color and texture.

The underwater oasis, which harbors many different specimens, structures and colors, is beautiful and mystical at the same time. Skerry's work also aims to bring awareness of the danger the ocean is in. The Global fish crisis and pollution are just some of the themes showcased in this exhibit.

The exhibit illustrates the effects the cacao bean has on the human culture, the global economy and the tropical ecosystem. Artists also display the journey of chocolate from a normal tree in the rainforest, over the Atlantic and how the cacao bean becomes a delicious treat through the addition of sugar.

»Patrick Kelly: Runway of Love

Patrick Kelly (1954-1990) was a renowned American fashion designer. Runway of Love is an exhibit of his bright and elegant clothing designs.  Kelly drew his inspiration from the different cultural influences in his life. He grew up as a gay African American under the loving care of his mother and grandmother in the American South, later moving to New York. Patrick Kelly's creativity and happy outlook on life ended early due to AIDS. Drawings and videos from fashion shows and photographs by Horst P. Horst, Oliviero Toscani and Pierre et Gilles round out the exhibit.

The exhibition features the life's work of American photographer Paul Strand (1890-1976). His work is considered critical to the history of modern art and forms the core of this museum's modern photography collection. Strand had his breakthrough with his series of abstract and candid street portraits. 250 prints from his extended exploration of New England, Ghana, Morocco, France, Italy and Romania and many other countries are showcased at Paul Strand: Master of Modern Photography.

Gerlan Jeans Loves Patrick Kelly is an exhibit featuring the clothing of American fashion designer Gerlan Marcel and her collection for the brand Gerlan Jeans. The collection is inspired by the renowned fashion designer Patrick Kelly (1954-1990). Marcel takes the signature buttons and bows from Kelly's designs and reinterprets them. Her designs are bright, colorful and full of pop culture references.
