Established in 1994, the Iron Hill brewery at Wilmington was one of the first to open in the series of this award-winning brewery restaurant chain. Beer enthusiasts need no introduction to their stellar array of handcrafted beers that have stood against some of the best in the region. From Belgian Ales to Lagers, each of their brews has a distinct flavor that is bound to please most tastes. Though beer is admittedly in focus here, the food to go with your brews is surprisingly well thought-of. Iron Hill offers a diverse menu of modern American specialties, and has everything from soups and salads to burgers, pizzas and sandwiches; perfect grub to match the beers on offer. The kitchen caters to dietary restrictions with a gluten free menu and also has a full menu for kids. The level of cooking is head and heels above the the average pub grub and blurs the lines between the brewery and the restaurant. The beautiful waterside location and spacious interiors make it a good choice for large groups and private functions as well. Check website for more.

Vinoteca 902 opened in 2010 to some superlative accolades thanks to Chef Julio Lazzarini's innovative fusing of Mediterranean and Latin flavors. The result is what they like to call Medilatino, and judging by the number of awards the chef has garnered, it's here to stay. The restaurant has a very elegant vibe with a mellow color palette, huge windows that afford plenty of natural light and contemporary lighting choices that give it a nice character. The wine has been carefully crafted in keeping with the unconventional menu choices and doesn't disappoint. The menu has some truly innovative stuff and it wouldn't be a bad idea to ask for recommendations from the knowledgeable wait-staff. The spacious dining room can handle groups with ease and is also available for private functions.
Centrally located in Wilmington, Café Mezzanotte delights, if you're looking for some honest and authentic Italian fare in the city. The food menu spans the Mediterranean palate with classic Italian specialties getting the most representation. The wine list is quite extensive and won't disappoint most tastes. The bar has a fine selection of cocktails and martinis, and is a highlight of the place. The restaurant interiors are spacious and cozy, though with a typical standard layout of many other restaurants. The fantastic outdoor dining area however, compensates for this. The restaurant can accommodate large groups and is also available for private functions. Check website for more.

With mentions dating back to the 18th Century, the space housing the Columbus Inn has a rich history. And with it's restoration and reopening in 2010, the owners have succeeded at not only updating it to a modern establishment that holds relevance today, but also bringing some of its glory back. A lesson in history, however, is not a requisite to having a good time at the Columbus Inn. On offer is a superb selection of contemporary American fare that changes with the seasons and a drinks list that shuffles flawlessly between the old world and new. From ancient concoctions and classics to modern takes, there's a fair bit of variety here and it won't hurt to try a little from every era. The interiors feature plenty of old-style wooden touches and some great lighting choices for a warm atmosphere. The contemporary seating choices provide a nice contrast. There is a choice of private rooms if you're looking for group dining or private parties. Check website for more.

The first of the two acclaimed McGlynns to open in Newark, the pub sits at the site of the historic Drummond Ale House and has seen the changing face of the city since its inception in 1983. Expectedly, it has a special place in the hearts of the locals who've made it their hangout of choice for everything from game days to simply chilling out with friends. On offer is a stunning array of beers (about 50) and other spirits to keep things flowing and an above average menu of American favorites that is hard to resist. The bar area is designed to encourage socialization and is great if you're on your own. Television screens strewn across the pub ensures that you get a glimpse of the game no matter where you're seated. The patio is a popular prospect on non-game days and is a great option to relax in an airier setting. The food at McGlynns has such a following that they also offer catering for occasions. Holding functions at site is also possible Check website for more.
