Near the seaside, in the historic fishing village of Vesima, already at the beginning of the 20th Century there was a restaurant that served fresh fish in a simple way. Ristorante al Campesino kept this tradition, evolving the cuisine with time in order to include all the principle recipes of the Mediterranean cuisine while specializing in shellfish. The place is elegant but not unwelcoming; the rooms are big and in the middle of the larger one stands an amazing aquarium. During the week, at lunch, the fixed price menu is only EUR10 and there is a special menu for groups. Also offering a large private parking lot, the restaurant is also ideal for parties and ceremonies. Desserts are all homemade and suggested wine pairings seldom go wrong.
Service is the main reason why you should drive for more than half an hour to get to this restaurant, founded in 1908 on the Crevari Hills. At Campenave you find maximum comfort and a welcoming atmosphere: a big green park, games for children, large rooms with many seats both inside and outside, private party/ceremony organizing, big private parking lot, shuttle service for people who come by bus and three different fixed price menus. The cuisine is no less remarkable: barbecue in the summer is the main attraction, so if you love meat then you won't be disappointed, and fish is available as well; the rest are typical plates, comprised of fantasy and quality.
At the top of the hill behind Voltri, just a few steps from the church, there is a farmhouse built in the 18th Century, where Ostaia da U Santu now sits, a typical country restaurant, simply furnished with much wood and slate. It offers many genuine local specialties. The view is completely open to the city and the sea below, and there are acres of land where the owners till their vegetables as well as the grapes, in order to make the wine they serve to customers. A large green space – have lunch under a pergola, walking distance from Voltri Park. The area is ideal for children.
On the beach of Voltri there is a place to satisfy the needs of everyone. A restaurant, to eat something good without spending too much, a pizzeria with wood stove, a grill for people who love meat and music hall, always with new performances (you’ll often find cabaret performances, as well). The ‘food and music’ formula is more than enough excuse to extend the fun until late night. Da Erasmo is particularly appreciated by families with children, thanks to a special menu with a 50% discount: at lunch (EUR10), as well as at dinner (EUR12), they offer also the popular ‘truck driver menu.’ No problem when it comes to parking, since there is a large free lot.
If you are looking for something different from the usual pizzeria or restaurant, here is where you will find your response. The menu is absolutely original, not being limited to the traditional mix of pizza and beer, and it contains several plates of international cuisine, such as raclette or bourguignonne, as well as many kinds of grilled meat or fish that you won't find anywhere else. The pizza is excellent as it is cooked in a wood stove, and you should expect rather cheap prices. The ambiance is very warm and welcoming, maybe even more so in winter thanks to the ample display of wood in the furniture. The position is not central, but the journey from Genoa is worth it since you won't forget this experience.
On the sea promenade of Pegli, close to the beach, there is a restaurant where you can eat fish from the appetizer to the main dish: cooking based on the regional tradition and always accompanied by the right white wine, thanks to the wide choice of labels. At Nanni's you should not miss the mega-starter, the desserts, the grappa cart and the homemade limoncino. The veranda, through the wide windows, allows you a wonderful view of the sea and the port; the furniture is marine style and the staff is very kind and helpful. Given that, it is worth the move from the city center, even by train, since the station is only one kilometer from the restaurant.
Pegli is a district a bit away from the center but it is an extremely pleasant area for hanging out, most of all thanks to the beautiful sea promenade where Oasi del Mare is located, a restaurant which offers excellent pizzas, to eat in or take out. Still, at this big kiosk, heated in winter and provided with outside seating in summer, where you can sit at one of the tables facing the sea, you have more than just pizza. In fact, you could try the grilled specialties: fish and meat, at good prices. Many of the young people living in the neighborhood come here, enticed by the beauty of the landscape and the quality/price ratio, also making it worth leaving the center (about 13 kilometers [eight miles]).
Defining this place with a single word is not easy. It is foremost a restaurant, given that the central aspect is the homemade cuisine, with its dishes of the local tradition, as well as ingredients typical of other regions and the unfailing pizza. Since one of the owners is also a sommelier, the taverna is also a wine bar, in fact it offers excellent bottles from the most important producers. Its hours of operation, then, are not suitable for a common restaurant: until the dead of the night, you can listen to jazz music, played live by musicians coming from all over Italy and even the world.
There are two locations that correspond to the name of Osteria Sette Pance (Seven Stomachs Tavern), both under the same management. One is found in walking while at Bagni Lido, a pool and gym complex, therefore in a central spot (careful with the Saturday night lines during summer); the other is located inside the complex itself. Both of the establishments are furnished in a marine style and propose a varied menu, ranging from pizza to fish, which makes it ideal for anyone who would like to taste good quality local cuisine without spending too much. The other location's address is: Via Garibaldi 133.
Sestri Ponente is an area to the west of Genoa, that has its own identity, with its own theatre, station, pedestrian area and pizzeria, La Lampara, whose walls are covered with old photos of Sestri. This is one of the most popular pizzerias in west Genoa with tens of different kinds of pizza and quick, polite service. The atmosphere is pleasant, although customers might have to be patient on busy evenings such as Saturday night, when you could find yourself waiting for a table.
A restaurant like those of a time gone by, with wooden walls and a kitchen exposed to view, where you go exclusively with the aim of having a good meal. Here, two steps from the main shopping street, Via Sestri, you can taste all the typical plates of the regional tradition of Liguria, most of all the farinata. Everything is cooked in the wood stove which gives it the unmistakable taste, and is served in two varieties: other than the famous chickpea flour, there is the “Savoia White,” made with wheat flour. It comes sprinkled with seasonal ingredients which make it much more appetizing: mushrooms, whitebait, baby onions. What a great place for lunch if you want to spend a fixed price of EUR10 eating something good.
For many years, Rododendro has been ranked amongst the Italy's top five restaurants. If are lucky enough to get to Boves (about one hour drive from Turin) and sit down in the Rododendro you will understand why it has received such an accolade. From the beautiful location at the edge of the forest, to the sophisticated details of the interior, you will enjoy a total experience that goes beyond the usual concept of excellence. Just one word can be used to describe the main courses, the best veal and beef meats, the foie gras, the finest wines: that word is "extraordinary". When you have to leave, the bill won't be light but there will be absolutely no regrets because you will have had a meal that you won't forget.
