No trip to Lisbon
is complete without a visit to Baixa, one of the centrally located districts of the city. Although the 1755 Lisbon Earthquake inflicted a lot of damage on the area, subsequent renovations have ensured that it is still one of the most impressive districts of Lisbon. Baixa is synonymous with Neoclassical buildings and grand squares, and is a delight to explore on foot. While you walk around admiring the architecture, you will come across a vast assortment of shops, among which you will also find numerous traditional traders. Rua Augusta, Rua da Prata and Rua da Aurea are the three main shopping streets where you can find a little bit of everything, but which are known particularly for jewelry stores.
