Situated to the north of Limerick city is the village of Killaloe. It is located on the banks of the River Shannon, between Slieve Bernagh on one side and the Arra Hills on the other. The Heritage Centre hosts an exhibition charting the history of the area from the 10th century to the present day. Visitors can learn about a host of prominent figures from the area's historic past. Also displayed is a replica of one of the Guinness barges that were used in the past to transport the famous Irish drink. Visitors are given the chance to climb aboard and further explore these boats. The centre also comprises a small craft shop and a tourist office, which has details on many tourist attractions in the area. Some of these are accessible via touch screen computer information points.
