Craggaunowen is a reconstruction of a typical Bronze Age settlement, situated to the north of Limerick city. The rural setting, spectacular countryside and embedded history set it apart as a place of great mystery and beauty. A focal point in Craggaunowen is its lake, which is situated in the grounds of a restored castle. The castle itself is proud to house some objects on loan from the Hunt Museum. Bronze Age features have been reconstructed here to make Celtic Ireland come alive. A Crannog (a dwelling constructed on an island in a lake), a ring fort and a curragh boat are among the exhibits; the staff demonstrate ancient crafts such as weaving. Picnic areas are provided for your convenience. Visit the souvenir shop where you can purchase a reminder of your day out.
