Arkivet is a building completed in the year 1935 located in Kristiansand, Norway. It was occupied by Gestapo from 1942-1945 and served as the headquarters in southern Norway. The building is now owned by a foundation called Stiftelsen Arkivet which operates a museum in the basement of the building. The basement is reconstructed to look like it was during Gestapo's occupancy. The torture chambers, cells and equipment are re-created in the museum. A monument in front of the building bears the names of 162 people who were killed in concentration camps.
Located amidst lush greens, is the interesting site more commonly known as the Agder Naturmuseum og Botanisk Hage. On-location is a natural history museum that is home to wide collections related to zoology and botany. Exhibits displayed depict the transition from Ice age to the current scenario. The famous open-air museum Vest-Agder Fylkesmuseum recreates the life and culture of Norway in the 18th and 19th Century. The Kristiansand Kanonmuseum or more locally, the Gun Museum has a story to tell. The center is not simply a sterile building of artistic displays, rather it features massive canons that today stands as a testimony to the earlier German invasion of Norway. Lillesand Town- and Maritime Museum is located in Lillesand, Norway. The museum is opened in a former merchant's house from 1827 and is dedicated to the cultural history of the town. The main building has a collection of old tools, furniture, utensils, etc. used by the people of the town. The old warehouse and merchant store in the backyard of the building have barns, scullery room, sailors' house, smiths workshops, etc. An old customs house is also a part of the museum and houses a customs museum. Guided tours are available at the museum outside the opening hours.
