Perched atop the Corcovado Mountain
is one of the New Seven Wonders of the World and Brazil's pride. Christ The Redeemer Statue has Jesus Christ with his arms stretched, symbolizing peace. Renowned as the world's largest Art Deco effigy, it stands tall at 38 meters (124.67 feet), which includes the pedestal. Designed by Heitor da Silva Costa, and sculpted by Paul Landowski, this marvelous sculpture, overlooking the city of Rio, is made up of soapstone and reinforced concrete. Today tourists don't have the daunting task of climbing up 220 stairs; instead can take panoramic elevator rides. There is a chapel at the base of this much photographed statue.
