Garden City Community College (GCCC) was founded in 1919 and is a recognized institution that serves Garden City and the greater area. It also has a number of sports programs in the offing for its students. Its baseball, football and basketball teams are one of the well known college teams in the city. The college complex comprises of the Williams Broncbuster Baseball Stadium, Pauline Joyce Fine Arts Building, Fouse Science-Math Building, Thomas F. Smith Library and other administrative buildings. GCCC offers many courses in the streams of arts, science, nursing and applied science.

Founded by two physicians over 80 years ago, St Catherine's hospital in Garden City is a community driven healthcare facility.
Garden City High School was founded in 1910 and is the only one-of-its-kind in the city. Set in 160 acres (64.75 hectares) of land, it features 123 classrooms, an auditorium, a gymnasium and a soccer stadium. The structure is segregated into four academies - Ninth Grade, Trade and Health Science, Public Service, and Arts and Communications. Pupils can change their course every year, to enable them to prepare for college and their respective career path. The institution is also known for its sports and has won numerous awards. Their newspaper, The Sugar Beet, is the oldest in the state.

Established in 1873 by the spirited John O' Loughlin, Lakin has a fantastic history which involved early settlers who passed through the famous Santa Fe Trail.
