The John Heinz National Wildlife Refuge at Tinicum is the largest freshwater tidal marsh in Pennsylvania. The mission of the refuge is to preserve the marsh, promote environmental education and provide visitors with an excellent opportunity to observe wildlife in its natural habitat. The Heinz refuge offers nature programs, environmental education workshops, field trip consultations and a resource library. All workshops, field trips and related services are offered free of charge. The Refuge is an excellent resource for birdwatchers, hikers and nature lovers.
Owned and operated by Marple Township, Paxon Hollow Country Club offers an award-winning, 18-hole public golf course, private, group and junior golf lessons, a fully-stocked pro shop, practice range and more.
Cobb's Creek Golf Course is actually located within Philadelphia city limits, just minutes away from downtown. This 18-hole championship set of links is a par 71 public course of 6130 yards. Opened in 1916, Cobb's Creek has watered fairways, putting greens, yardage markers and a driving range that has made this course a favorite among golfers. Opened year round, tee time reservations are required. Call for information about large or corporate outings.
Greens are fast, fairways are sparsely tree-lined, and only features water hazards on a couple of holes.
Hunter Station in the Allegheny River Valley offers two-bedroom condos, two-bedroom motel units, an 18-hole golf course, a pro shop, and the 19th Hole.
Smethport Country Club is a semi-private, nine-fairway course with alternate tees making it an 18-hole course.
Situated in the Susquehanna River Valley, the public 18-hole Cherokee Golf Course is known as "one of central Pennsylvania's finest manicured and easiest walking public courses."
Offers two ice-skating rinks with superior surfaces. Open to public for part of most days. The building also has an indoor field house.
This archery center features a pro shop with custom equipment, indoor and outdoor shooting lanes and more. Private lessons are available.
