Athenaeum Theatre Studio OneJuly 13, 2014 3:00 PM
    2936 North Southport Avenue
    Chicago, IL 60614
A ringing cell phone starts off this madcap romantic comedy by Pulitzer Prize finalist Sarah Ruhl ("The Clean House" and "Eurydice"). When the peaceful ambiance in an otherwise-quiet café is interrupted by an incessantly ringing cell phone, Jean, the woman at the next table, becomes exasperated. Discovering that the phone's owner is dead, she answers the phone -- and soon finds herself dating the dead man's brother, sharing cosmopolitans with his widow, and meeting his mistress for a mysterious rendezvous. Jean's odd odyssey to set things right for the dead man results in resurrecting her own life by forcing her to confront her own assumptions about morality, redemption and the need to connect in a technologically obsessed world.

The Crookes is an indie-pop quartet from Sheffield, England that quickly rose to national attention after the release of its debut album, Chasing After Ghosts, in 2011. Driven by tropical guitar melodies and soaring lyrics, the group cultivated its own sonic aesthetic from romantic elements of classic pop and cooler threads of modern indie rock.

    1229 West Belmont
    Chicago, IL 60657
From John Wilkes Booth to John Hinckley, Jr., Stephen Sondheim's Tony Award winning one-act musical bends time to bring together America's most unforgettable presidential assassins for a darkly comic journey through the underbelly of the American Dream. This warped and tuneful tour through history takes the form of a carnival game, where the sounds of the decades, from ragtime to folk and more, accompany revue-style portrayals of these notorious assassins and would-be assassins. The twisted festivities might even look familiar to you, bearing a striking similarity to the circus we call "celebrity culture." You'll be invited inside the minds of the assassins -- men who, in their unique ways, felt they'd been robbed of the American Dream. What made them resort to violence where others didn't? Does society play a role in creating these "monsters"? Thought-provoking and delightful, "Assassins" is sure to stimulate plenty of post-show conversation.
