Exposed to country and gospel music as a child, Iris DeMent is a folk singer/songwriter from Arkansas with heavy southern influences. Filled with themes of small town life and religious doubt, her debut album Infamous Angel was released in 1992. Her intimate and introspective songwriting carried through into her Grammy Award-winning follow-up, My Life. Released in 1994, the album solidified her narrative songwriting style and made put DeMent in the sphere of other prominent folk/country artists such as Steve Earle and Emmylou Harris, whom she collaborated with on more than one occasion. She released her fifth studio record titled Sing the Delta, in 2012.

Acclaimed writer-actor-journalist Anna Deavere Smith ("The West Wing", "Nurse Jackie") is celebrated for her unique and intelligent "documentary plays." She's received numerous accolades, from Tony and Obie awards to a MacArthur "Genius" grant for her stirring dramatizations of current issues based on interviews with real life subjects. A perfect companion to Smith's powerful performance as hospital administrator Gloria Akalitus in "Nurse Jackie", "Let Me Down Easy", is a humorous and heart-wrenching exploration of our healthcare system and the experience of illness and loss. First-person accounts from subjects including Lance Armstrong and former Texas governor Ann Richards paint an incredible portrait of nineteen diverse Americans on the road toward the end.
