Without surprise, Tempest is one of the rowdiest places in the city. Low on wine, high on beer. If you want a calm, safe evening with in music, then stay away. But if you think that people are at their most charming when they are very drunk, and you mainly want to dance to chart hits, you may have come to the right place. The place serves international food and rather cheap beer. Rumor has it that this is not the best place to look for a nachspiel. But for a no-holds-barred party it can be good. A lot of the clientele is from outside the city.

Stravinsky is a large and popular disco club designed for dancing. It is not too far from the main street and, thus, is easy to find. Beer and most spirits are served. 80s music is the primary focus of the club, but classic pop and more modern music are played occasionally as well. Trendy people who want a bit of conversation and a lot of dancing and mingling will feel at home here. The minimum age of admission is 20, which ensures a more mature atmosphere than many other discos. The admission fees are not prohibitive, so this is a rather popular place to spend at least part of the evening.

»Last Train

Last Train on Karl Johan Street has a long tradition of housing musicians, especially those with a predilection for rock. It has been the starting-point for countless Norwegian chart-raiders and flops, and is still important for those who want to be seen with the right people. If you feel like taking a break from the ultra-trendy and fashionable parts of Oslo, Last Train is a useful hideout. The beer is inexpensive and staff and patrons alike are generally nice and welcoming. Even the bouncers have a nice reputation.

Betong is located in the basement of Chateau Neuf, a five-floor building owned by the students at Oslo University. The building itself is worth a tour, with all its hidden bars and concert areas (where Betong offers larger concerts and gigs). These give you the freedom to move around in the building and get a taste of everything that's going on. Betong, meaning concrete in Norwegian, is exactly what you get. Dark concrete walls, sparse lighting and a bit of that, after-the-bomb feel. They often stage high-quality DJs and bands, including some unknown, up-and-coming-ones.

»Rock In

Oslo being well known for its rock and metal scene, the Rock In club is an ideal spot for all rock fans. At this rather small place which is very scantily lit with loud blaring music in the background you will find locals sipping on their alcohol while tuning into the fabulous music. Live Performances by local bands promise some original music and take the overall entertainment quotient a notch higher. The theme of this club is Gothic with most of the crowd sporting piercings and colored hair.
