Prepkitchen - Del Mar is a foodie haven and has been a local favorite for some time. The global, contemporary food is a hit amongst its patrons such as salads like beets, tangerine, avocado, goat cheese nuggets and watercress and hearty sandwiches such as a house-roasted turkey with kumquat aïoli, watercress and bacon and a tuna melt with rémoulade and aged Gouda make up for lunch. House-cured meat and California cheese platters are for the nights, where you can tipple on handcrafted beers and well selected wines. Some of the whiz creations are the freshly caught Moroccan-spiced mahi mahi served with sweet potato, spinach and raita and duck leg confit on lentils, Chorizo Date Fritters and 3 Eggs Any Style. The menu is truly a beautiful fusion of all the cuisines and paired with combinations not thought of. A fun place to be in, Prepkitchen truly elevates your food experience.
Located near the beach, Kitchen 1540 offers an outdoor patio, where couples or small groups can sit around fire pits and dine on pastel, green, padded chairs set. Larger groups can enjoy privacy in small, well-lit cabanas set off to the side. Inside, below slanted ceilings, guests can dine at tables, booths, or the bar, in a room of pastels. - Erick Pettersen
Breathtaking ocean views and superb seafood cuisine makes Pacifica Del Mar one of the most popular in North County. Reservations are advised at all times, but are essential during weekends. Perennial favorite entrees include the Barbecued Sugar-Spiced Salmon and the Grilled Ahi. Early-bird dinners offer 15 percent off before 6p.
Enoteca del Fornaio is a relaxing place to come and sip wine. The wine comes from Northern Italy and you can sample different varieties before ordering. In addition to wine, try the espresso that will keep you awake for hours. If you are in the mood for something a little sweeter, try the frothy Cappuccino. There is a full entree menu offered as well. Half of the bar is outside and half inside. Those who like to order a cigar with their wine can enjoy them in the outdoor half of the patio.
A popular spot for both locals and tourists, Jake's Del Mar is near the Del Mar Race Track and is particularly lively during the racing season. This restaurant offers sandside dining on a beautiful patio. Fish dishes top the menu. The Poseidon Seafood Combo is a good choice, offering Deep-Fried Prawns, Scallops, Cod and Calamari Strips. A bit of advice: do not go during one of the rare California storms, as the waves can crash onto the patio. Do go around sunset, when you may be blessed with a visit from a pod of dolphins swimming parallel to the shore. The Poseidon Restaurant opens at 5pm everyday.
Located along rustic yet upscale Carmel Valley Road, this bistro offers winemakers' dinners, but they take it to a new level. Their special reservation-only beer-accompanied dinners also treat the suds as a worthy addition to an indulgent dining experience. During long summer nights, diners can gaze at white cranes flying across the most beautiful wetland area in San Diego county, the Los Penasquitos Lagoon. The "Fish and Chips – not!" features fried fish fillets with a mound of mashed sweet potatoes. On Tuesdays, it's BYOB night when corkage fees are waived so diners can enjoy a bottle from their own collections. - deTraci Regula

Delicious and authentic Thai cuisine at reasonable prices keeps this award-winning restaurant popular. Diners enjoy classic Thai dishes such as Pad Thai, a tasty noodle dish flavored with peanuts and lime juice, and Mee Krob, a crunchy, sweet noodle served as an appetizer or main dish at Spices Thai Cafe. Other dishes range in spiciness and only the brave gourmet should ask for extra hot. There are traditional vegetarian dishes available as well.
After spending the day at the Del Mar Racetrack across the street, step inside Red Tracton's and order drinks in the handsome dark-panelled bar, then top it off with a flavorful steak dinner. The venue offers prime cuts of beef with all the trimmings. There are also seafood and chicken entrees on the menu. Of course you will need to win big at the racetrack because the prices are rather steep, but well worth it.
