This restaurant advertises, 'no fancy rolls,' which means basic, traditional sushi is the dominant fare here. The restaurant includes a few tiny tables, but the sushi bar monopolizes most of the space and attention. While novices are welcome at the sushi bar, most of this restaurant's patrons are experienced sushi pros. If you are a bit uneasy about sea life culinary adventures, just be sure to obtain the menu with full translation, lest you order an Anago Roll, not realizing it is an eel.
Prepkitchen - Del Mar is a foodie haven and has been a local favorite for some time. The global, contemporary food is a hit amongst its patrons such as salads like beets, tangerine, avocado, goat cheese nuggets and watercress and hearty sandwiches such as a house-roasted turkey with kumquat aïoli, watercress and bacon and a tuna melt with rémoulade and aged Gouda make up for lunch. House-cured meat and California cheese platters are for the nights, where you can tipple on handcrafted beers and well selected wines. Some of the whiz creations are the freshly caught Moroccan-spiced mahi mahi served with sweet potato, spinach and raita and duck leg confit on lentils, Chorizo Date Fritters and 3 Eggs Any Style. The menu is truly a beautiful fusion of all the cuisines and paired with combinations not thought of. A fun place to be in, Prepkitchen truly elevates your food experience.
Located near the beach, Crepes and Corks may remind patrons of a French sidewalk café. Inside, hanging lamps brighten the L shaped bar, which is enhanced by Sienna walls and black, iron tables and chairs set throughout the sitting area. Outside, guests can dine at tables, tucked away from nearby traffic. Along with Parisian and dessert Crepes, including a Raspberry Chicken Crepe and a Nutella Crepe, they serves tapas, breakfast dishes, Paninis, various coffees and wines, and much more. On Thursdays, they offer an Italian night from 4p until 8p, and they have a happy hour Tuesday through Friday from 4p until 6p. Chef and owner Susan Sbicca, who has worked in the food industry since 1978, creates an elegant and charming atmosphere in this upscale bistro. The menu is vast including delicious entrees, such as Spinach Papparadelle, Spicy Cajun Penne Pasta, Vegetable Lasagna, Garlic Roasted Chicken Breast and Salmon au Poivre. If you are looking for a more exquisite culinary treat, try the Grilled Ahi, served with Wasabi butter.
Located near the beach, Kitchen 1540 offers an outdoor patio, where couples or small groups can sit around fire pits and dine on pastel, green, padded chairs set. Breathtaking ocean views and superb seafood cuisine makes Pacifica Del Mar one of the most popular in North County. Whether dining amidst the warm hues of the elegant main salon or watching a Pacific sunset from the glass-enclosed patio, you are in for a treat if you can get a table. Reservations are advised at all times, but are essential during weekends. Perennial favorite entrees include the Barbecued Sugar-Spiced Salmon and the Grilled Ahi. Early-bird dinners offer 15 percent off before 6p.
At Shimbashi Izakaya, in a dining room of elegant red padded stools and wood furnishings, guests can either sit at the sushi bar or with friends around one of the many tables. For lunch, they serve dishes like Sashimi, Mini Pork Katsu, and spicy tuna rolls. For dinner, they serve many of those same dishes, as well as appetizers like edamame, and main courses like deep-fried garlic and grilled Japanese eggplant. A popular spot for both locals and tourists, Jake's Del Mar is near the Del Mar Race Track and is particularly lively during the racing season. Featuring a location directly on the beach, it is close to being the perfect California dining experience. The menu offers everything from seafood and steaks to lighter pasta and vegetable entrees. The chefs offer daily specials in addition to the regular menu. Between lunch and dinner food is available in the bar.
This restaurant offers sandside dining on a beautiful patio. Fish dishes top the menu. The Poseidon Seafood Combo is a good choice, offering Deep-Fried Prawns, Scallops, Cod and Calamari Strips. A bit of advice: do not go during one of the rare California storms, as the waves can crash onto the patio. Do go around sunset, when you may be blessed with a visit from a pod of dolphins swimming parallel to the shore. The Poseidon Restaurant opens at 5pm everyday.
For those who want others to experience Elijah's Restaurant, which serves up dishes like Denver Omelet's and Eggs Benedict for breakfast, as well as various sandwiches, burgers, and more for lunch and dinner, this great restaurant caters. For those who do not want an event catered but do have a large group, Elijah's Restaurant features two private banquet halls that can accommodate up to 130 guests. But no matter whether a guest wants to dine alone, enjoy Elijah's Restaurant with a group, or have their next event catered, the best part about Elijah's is their desserts, which includes delectables like raspberry cheesecake, Black Forest cake, and more than 30 types of cookies. - Erick Pettersen
This establishment, advertised as a, 'family restaurant,' is ideal for a quick lunch stop or informal dinner with the kids. Inside, wooden tables are accompanied by a large television in the corner. Outside, several patio tables are surrounded by bushes and colorful flowers. The menu includes pizza, pasta, salads and sandwiches. Sam's Special Pizza combines pepperoni, sausage, mushrooms, olives, onions and bell peppers. Meanwhile, popular pasta favorites include Gourmet Lasagne and Cheese Ravioli. From the sandwich menu, consider Pastrami or Veal Parmesan.
