»The Three Tenors

November 22, 2014 8:00 PM

The Three Tenors is a name given to collaborative concerts of the three operatic tenors Plácido Domingo, José Carreras and Luciano Pavarotti. The trio began their collaboration with a debut concert at the ancient Baths of Caracalla in Rome held on the eve of the 1990 FIFA World Cup final in Italy, on July 7, 1990, with Zubin Mehta conducting the Orchestra del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino and the Orchestra del Teatro dell'Opera di Roma. The idea of the concert was originally conceived by the Italian manager/producer Mario Dradi. The first concert was held to raise money for Carreras's foundation and also as a way for his contemporaries, Domingo and Pavarotti, to welcome their friend and colleague back to the world of opera after his successful treatment for leukemia. The three subsequently sang together, in concerts produced by Hungarian Tibor Rudas and others, at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles for the 1994 World Cup finals, at the Champs de Mars, below the Eiffel Tower in Paris during France '98 and in Yokohama during the 2002 tournament. They have also played in other cities around the world, usually performing in stadiums or other large outdoor venues. Born Neal Fraser in Guyana in 1955, Mad Professor has left an indelible mark on the sonic palette of dub reggae. At the tender age of 20, Fraser indulged his dual passions for reggae and electronic equipment by starting his own recording studio in South London and began imprinting his trademark brand of atmospheric spaciness onto an entire generation of dub artists. Since then, he has recorded a good deal of his own material and done high profile remixes (most notably, a complete re-imagining of Massive Attack's 1995 album, Protection, as well as produced over 200 albums for artists from the world of reggae and beyond.

»Cork Training, November: Get Started With Process Optimization and Scale-up Using Dynochem

November 26, 2014 9:00 AM

Join the DynoChem training team for two days of hands-on training, using DynoChem to accelerate process development and scale-up projects.Training will address DynoChem applications for engineers and scientists in API manufacturing sites involved in tech transfer, troubleshooting and optimisation of API reaction, workup and isolation steps. The agenda will cover topics such as:Obtaining physical property values for solvents and mixturesPhase equilibrium calculations for boiling point, identifying azeotropes and miscibilityReactor calculations for heat transfer and mixingOptimising batch distillation / solvent switch operationsScale-up of filtration and centrifugation stepsBasics of DynoChem modelling applicable to reactions, crystallization and other operationsTraining times will be from 9:0 to 4:30 each day, with 6 hours of tuition. Computers with DynoChem installed will be provided for your convenience - there is no need to bring a laptop.Learning objectives:By the end of the course, trainees will be able to: Draw and understand process schemes and use them to help think about how to model or design experiments to understand a new or existing process Use DynoChem utilities to estimate parameter values, compare vessels and ensure minimum agitation criteria are met in lab and plant vessels Use plant data to back out equipment characteristics, especially heat transfer Simulate solid-liquid separation operations based on standard lab experiments Look up physical properties for pure components and mixtures Simulate solvent swap / displacement / chasing operations to optimize solvent volumes and cycle time Generate response surfaces to study process robustness and determine design space for QbD submissions Understand more about how DynoChem works internally and how it builds the model from user input Explore other applications and reuse learned skills to tackle other unit operations or create new templates.Refund / cancellation policy:1. Substitutions can be made at any time before the training.2. For cancellations made in writing up to one week before the training, a full refund will be made, less a financial charge of 100.3.
