The Shiva Murugan Temple was originally established as the Palaniswami Sivan Temple by Sivaya Subramuniya Swami in 1957. As more and more Hindus began to settle down in the area, the temple soon became a center for the religious and community lives of these Hindus. When the original temple was no longer able to accommodate the growing number of devotees, the temple moved in to a former church building at Concord, where it remains even today. Now managed by the Non-profit organization of the Saiva Siddhanta Ashram, the temple offers prayers to Ganesha, Muruga and Shiva. Traditional religious services are held regularly, and the temple remains open for darshan throughout the day on weekends and on weekdays from 10a to noon and 6p to 9p. The Church of the Resurrection at Pleasant Hill is a part of the Episcopal Church and lies at the heart of the area's Christian community. Services are held at 9a and 11:15a, and each service begins with a piano prelude with time to contemplate the selected Bible passage that is displayed on a screen. Childcare and education classes for children are available during all services, although children above the age of 3 years are encouraged to attend services with their parents.
