In the Chicago Ridge Park District, the Frontier Park Fieldhouse is a huge fitness and sports center. A playground for children, volleyball and basketball courts, and a walking track are the facilities provided in the arena which host local matches. The magnificent fitness center, fully equipped with the best and latest of exercise equipment is also available on site. A number of events take place here as well, like the Tiny Tot Prom, Daddy-Daughter Date Night etc.
The area's oldest racetrack has been in operation at its present location since 1891 and is still going strong. Hawthorne offers the only live thoroughbred racing during autumn in the area. The Gary Comer Youth Center, located in the city of Chicago is a great place to take the kids to. The Homan Square Park and Community Center offers some truly excellent recreational facilities for all to enjoy. The campus includes an indoor swimming pool, gymnasium, fitness center, a kitchen and a number of meeting rooms. The park itself is a splendid, grassy lawn where visitors can enjoy a game of basketball or volley ball. Built in 1899 near the site of the Columbian Exposition of 1893, the grounds are well-tended with pro shop, on-site Pro, driving range and snack bar. Caddie and pull cart rental are available but no there's no gas or electric cart rental. Ask about twilight, junior and senior rates. Tee times are accepted up to 90 days in advance.

In a metropolitan city like Chicago, Mandrake Park is not just a park, but is a blessing in disguise. The park is named after Henry McNeil "Mandrake" Brown, who is known for his stand against alcohol and tobacco advertisements that targeted children and members of certain races. The park boasts stellar recreational facilities, including baseball diamonds, basketball courts, a race track, a multi-purpose athletic field, tennis courts and a playground for children. A gymnasium, an auditorium and meeting rooms are also available at the Fieldhouse at the park.
The Two 18-hole Bent grass courses, Port and Starboard, at Harborside International Golf Center are open to the public. Even though this is a public course, many consider it as fine as the best private courses. This place offers various facilities. Green fees on a weekday for a 18-hole is USD65; gas carts are included. Tee times are accepted up to 14 days in advance. There is a dress policy - no denim and collared shirt. Bermuda shorts are required.
