Strategically placed televisions provide a good view of the game without annoying those who aren't interested. The cafe serves deli-style sandwiches fresh and fast to busy downtown diners. If you're taking the rest of the day off, enjoy a pitcher of your favorite brew.

»Southside Jazz Junction

The tapas menu here is unparalleled, and will delight your senses as much as the lively jazz music. The menu changes frequently, but some standby favorites are ostrich, paella, Cajun veal chops and barbeque chicken-crawfish manicotti. The two-story dining room is accented with murals and grand pianos on each floor. Lanterns on each table provide gentle ambiance and odd cutaways and corners allow for quiet conversations. It's a marvelous environment in which to dine and relax. The kitchen and the musicians aren't the only stars here. The bar is THE spot for gathering with old friends or making some new ones. The extensive beer selection includes foreign, domestic and micro-brewed beers and fine wines.

»Broad Street Grille

Broad Street Grille is a luxurious dining restaurant in the Chattanooga Hotel that specializes in a forward-thinking American menu. Choosing the best quality vegetables straight from the field, it puts together a scrumptious meal of Braised Beef Short Rib, Farm Table Pasta and Foundry Southern FGT. Lunchtime sees a popular buffet menu of select items along with a free beverage and valet parking. There is a separate menu for those who are gluten intolerant. Children can choose from their own menu of sandwiches, burgers and pizza. Book ahead to enjoy the meal, as the venue can get crowded during peak hours.

Bourbon and burgers. What could be better? Urban Stack proves that the answer to that question is just this: nothing. The menu is full with an ample selection of special burgers with amazing toppings. Choose from the New Mexico green chile cheeseburger, the fried green tomato burger or classic bacon cheeseburger. »Lizard Lounge

Not since the ill-fated Chameleon Club has Chattanooga enjoyed such an eclectic mix of people in one club. This newly opened (and, one hopes, long standing) club features a large dance floor, loud music, rude servers and the occasional live band. In other words, it is a perfect nightclub. College students are the primary patrons here, but it is not unusual to find the "older crowd" in attendance. In fact, there is nothing deemed unusual here. As the nights turn to morning you will find yourself dancing with an interesting cross section of society. $3 cover charge at the door.

»The Pickle Barrel

A small yet prime location near Warehouse Row makes it a great stop for busy shoppers or hungry downtown workers. The evenings find a range of patrons, from college co-eds to bikers. The first thing to try is the Fried Pickle, the namesake of this cafe. It's absolutely enormous. Juicy burgers and huge sandwiches are the standard fare. Domestic and imported bottled beer and wine is also served.

»Cafe Tazza

The décor is multi-colored furniture, surrealistic murals, mosaic floor, and bookshelves with numerous tomes. Performance artists and musicians make this an interactive coffeehouse. Start the morning with a bagel and some cream cheese ($2). Lunch offers wraps, soups, and fresh sandwiches, including Java chicken sandwich (half sandwich $2.50, whole sandwich $4) with white chicken and a pineapple and curry seasoning. Freshly brewed coffee complement the delicious desserts, providing the perfect ending to a delightful dining experience.

»Innside Restaurant

Serving hearty sandwiches, breakfast platters and desserts, this little cafe has been serving downtown workers and Read House guests for decades. The decor shows the age of the cafe: faded linoleum floors and cracked vinyl seats, but the food makes up for the lack of aesthetic charm. Guests of the Radisson Read House Hotel Suites often discover a simple breakfast or lunch is not so simple in the hotel restaurants. If you just want a quick bite and don't care so much about eating healthy, step around the corner to this convenient diner.
