Norway played a huge role in bringing a cure for leprosy and the Lepramuseet - Leprosy Museum of St. Georges Hospital is a fitting place to know about the social stigma and the cure related to this illness. Bergen was the international leprosy capital during the late 19th century and had dedicated hospitals for patients afflicted with this disease. St. George’s Hospital is the oldest of all three and was also a research center. This is where Armauer Hansen, a local physician found the cause of the disease which helped in eradicating leprosy or Hansen's disease throughout the world.
