The Bergen Museum is a beautiful history showcase in the city. The museum functions under the University of Bergen and was started in the early 19th century by Wilhelm Frimann Koren Christie. The museum is an epitome when it comes to natural and cultural collections in the area. These are the two departments in the museum that have, over the years, collected a number of relevant and important items concerning the cultural and natural history of the place. Located in the university campus itself, the museum is known to be the largest collection of its kind in the entire country. The exhibits at the museum include cultural memorabilia from communities like those of vikings, Inuit, Eskimo, Baktaman and others, like local folk artwork, tools, costumes, and more. The natural history exhibits put light on skeletal remains creatures like the enormous whales that are much larger than the ones we know of today, geological, zoological and entomological an other findings. The museum also has a Botanical Garden and an Arboretum as part of its displays. Check the website for more information.
