Opened in 1852, The Arboretum or Arboretum Park is Nottingham's oldest public park. It houses a collection of over 800 species of trees and plants, and is historically significant part of Nottingham. The park provides several walkways, which not only provide recreation but are also informative regarding the multitudes of trees planted in the park. The park also contains several key features, which include the Chinese Bell Tower, the Victorian Flower Garden, the lake, and Dahlia and Formal Garden. The Arboretum also serves as host to several events, throughout the year and has been the recipient the prestigious Green Flag award on several occasions.
