Giovanni's Ristorante is a top-class Italian restaurant located in Beachwood. It has won a AAA 4-diamond award, one of just a handful of restaurants in Cleveland to do so. After its 2001 renovation, the décor is warm and speckled with prints of famous Picasso paintings. The menu aims for authenticity, right down to the lengthy Italian dish names (though they're followed by English descriptions). Entrées include Costoletta di Vitello “Osso Lungo,” a charred long bone veal chop, or Scottato di Oppoglosso Impanato, a potato-crusted halibut. Vegetarians have salad and pasta choices, such as Linguine al Pesto Genovese or Capellini D'Angelo Aluarrabbiata, an angel hair garlic pasta dish. Red, the Steakhouse derived its odd-sounding name from its sister restaurant Moxie, the Restaurant. As its name implies, Red is a steak and seafood joint, though it also has a few pasta dishes. Vegetarians will find slim pickings on the menu. Appetizers include JB's Steak Tartare with shallots and capers, or French Onion Soup. The entrées also have an à la carte menu of sides like Truffled Mashed Potatoes or Parmesan Tater Tots. There's also a wide variety of steaks to choose from, such as Aged USDA Prime Ribeye or Free Range Domestic Veal. Red also prides itself on an extensive wine selection. - Marjorie Jensen
Benihana is a national teppanyaki chain with over a dozen locations in the nation, but only one in Cleveland. Teppanyaki is a style of Japanese cooking and dining, involving a large iron grill upon which meats and vegetables are fried. Teppanyaki chefs are also known for their theatrics and style, performing tricks for the customers. The menu includes well-known Japanese fare, such as Terayaki Chicken and sushi, as well as Benihana specialties like Benihana Delight with chicken and shrimp, or Texas Imperial, a hibachi chateaubriand steak with lobster tail. Taza Lebanese Grill was opened as a slightly more upscale version of the popular Aladdin's Eatery chain in the Cleveland area. It has kept the popularity, even winning Cleveland Magazine's Silver Spoon Award for "Best Middle Eastern" in 2008. The most notable parts of the restaurant layout are the outdoor patio and the wood-burning grill in view of the diners. Taza offers complimentary savory pita bread to start the meal. The shish grill cooks up both lunches and dinners, at different prices. The dinner entrées include Samakeh Harra, Tajin, or Seana—cod, salmon, or tuna, respectively. Carnivores can enjoy the Shawarma Plate of grilled beef with veggies in tahini sauce, and vegetarians can try the Mujadara, a plate of lentils and rice topped with Salata and onions. Nuevo Latino food is a fusion of Latin American cuisine with American and European influences. The Paladar Latin Kitchen and Rum Bar opened in 2007 to great fanfare and has been a busy hub of Nuevo Latino fare ever since. Their menu includes traditional Latin American food—called "Latin Comfort Food"—as well as seafood and steaks. Vegetarians may have a difficult time at dinner, except for the Panko Crusted Vegetable Relleno, but the lunch menu includes several salads and other veggie options. There is also a rum bar with a happy hour between 3p-7p, and a variety of appetizers and desserts from which to choose.
Fleming's at Woodmere is an elegant chain of this upscale steakhouse known for their USDA Prime Beef, steakhouse delicacies and award winning 'Fleming's 100' showcasing 100 wines by the glass for USD10 or less. It is the best place if you are yearning for a scrumptious steak and a glass of delicious wine. The dining room has an open kitchen and a huge bar. It has an inviting ambience with its high ceilings and customized alabaster chandeliers. Fleming's also serves chops, seafood, poultry and distinct side dishes such as chipotle cheddar macaroni and cheese, truffle and Parmesan peppercorn butter, Fleming's potatoes made with cream, jalapenos and cheddar or the house specialty. Savory entrees like tenderloin carpaccio with caper creole mustard sauce and red onion, and wicked Cajun barbecue shrimp marinated with a flair of garlic and spices and main course dishes like the hearty double thick pork rib chop baked with apple cider creole mustard, julienne of apples and celery root and the chef's mixed grill selection prepared daily will whet your appetite for more of Fleming's celebration of outstanding food and wine. And don't forget their decadent chocolate lava cake.
Mitchell's Fish Market does more than fish—they also do shellfish! Their general menu contains a variety of seafood appetizers and entrées, such as New Orleans Seafood Gumbo, Chesapeake Bay Jumbo Crab Cakes, or Pumpkin Seed Crusted Tilapia. There are even a handful of non-seafood dishes, like Filet Mignon and Lemon-Pepper Grilled Chicken. Vegetarians have a handful of salads to pick from, but not much else. There are also daily fresh fish specials with several different preparation styles, including a their signature preparation, the Shang Hai. Marbella is an upscale Spanish restaurant serving Spanish and Portuguese dishes in scenic Pepper Pike. The restaurant has a beautiful patio where you can enjoy romantic candle lit dinners and take in the wonderful views of the village and enjoy each others company. The menu ranges from steaks, poultry, riojas, fish and seafood, paellas and more. Some of the menu highlights are the Octopus In Olive Oil And Paprika, Spanish Vegetable Soup. Chicken Breast With Garlic Sauce, Twin Lobster Tails, Shrimp In A Garlic Sauce, Paella Valenciana (assorted seafood with chicken & sausage in saffron rice), Veal Scaloppini With Mushrooms In Marsala Wine Sauce, and Linguini with assorted seafood in tomato sauce. The ambience is warm and welcoming with its dining rooms walls adorning Pablo Picasso's paintings, chic decor with wine racks and an open kitchen area. When the Mint Café branched off into suburban Pepper Pike, it became, cleverly, Peppermint Thai Cuisine. Peppermint offers authentic southern Thai cuisine in addition to its own creations and fusion dishes. Its "Signature Dishes" include Under the Sea, a collection of shrimp, scallops, mussels, and squid with curry sauce, or Chili Duck with steamed vegetables. Peppermint also offers customized curries, with red, yellow, green, masaman, panang, or pik king sauce and vegetables, as well as chicken, beef, pork, shrimp, duck, tofu, vegetable, or their special blend of meats. The Saffron Patch is located somewhat incongruously in an office building, but thr bright neon elephant in the window faithfully draws out its location. The décor inside is more elegant, with a subtle black-and-white motif. The menu lists its dishes in flowery terms, such as Vegetarian Love Affair or Tandoor Temptations. They offer selections to tempt all kinds of appetites, from traditional Tandoor Chicken to Lobster Curry, and several types of bread like Nan, Onion Kulcha, and Paneer Paratha stuffed with cheese. Maggiano's Little Italy is the name of the restaurant, though not the location. Maggiano's is located in Beachwood Place mall instead of Cleveland's Little Italy district. Maggiano's is also notable for its large servings. Single entrées are large enough, but Maggiano's also offers "family style" servings of huge plates passed around to all members of the party. The family-style menu features classic staples, such as Chicken Parmesan, Veal Marsala, or even Lobster Ravioli. Single entrées are more diverse and have more vegetarian options, like Fettuccine Alfredo. They also serve entrée salads like Roasted Chicken and Arugula, or baked Mushroom Ravioli al Forno. This Chinese restaurant is nestled between Legacy Village and Beachwood Place Mall, near the Acadia Country Club. This venue's dining room is decorated in chic mauve and gray, accented with etched glass dividers. The friendly and attentive staff delivers large portions, or patrons can call in carry-out orders.
