    October 25, 2014 11:00 AM

Terrapin is an Algonquian word for a turtle that lives in fresh orbrackishwaters. Because of the University of Maryland's close proximity to lands that have historically belonged to the Algonquain peoples, the school decided it'd be fitting to call the various sports teams thatcompetefor it the Terrapins. The name was coined in 1932 by Dr. Harry "Curley" Byrd, then the university's football coach and eventually its president. Prior to the Terrapins, the Maryland teams were called the Old Liners, areferenceto the state's moniker, "The Old Line State." The teams play in the NationalCollegiateAthletic Association Division I.

    »Dave Chappelle

    October 25, 2014 7:30 PM

One of the most recognizable faces and voices in entertainment, Dave Chappelle is a stand-up comedian and actor who got his start on the stand-up comedy circuit in New York City. Despite getting booed off stage during his first performance at the legendary Apollo Theater's amateur night, he quickly rose to the occasion and made a name for himself among the hoards of aspiring entertainers in New York. He landed his first acting role in Mel Brooks' 1993 filmRobin Hood: Men in Tights, before developing a number of television pilots that were never picked up by any networks throughout the 1990s. After earning his first hour long comedy special on HBO Dave Chappelle: Killin' Them Softly, in 2000, his satirical brand of comedy began to catch on. His own sketch comedy show Chappelle's Show, debut in 2003 and quickly collected a well-earned share of commercial and critical accolades, as well as controversy for its razor sharp critique of pop culture, politics, racial stereotypes and the overall American way of life. In 2005, unhappy with the direction of his show, Chappelle abruptly departed for South Africa, where he stayed for a month before returning with surprise stand-up shows in Los Angeles. LeavingChappelle's Show behind him, he continues to perform stand-up to his own standards.

    »Wookiefoot

    October 25, 2014 9:30 PM

Wookiefoot is a reggae/stoner rock jam band from Minneapolis, Minnesota that not only is probably one of the strangest acts to come out of the Twin Cities area, but describes its heavy hitting, easy to follow style of music and performance as "short-attention span theater." To a burgeoning generation of young people whose attention span barely extends beyond a Youtube video clip, Wookiefoot seems to have exactly what they're looking for--fun-loving music that constantly moves and fluctuates with the wildly shifting attentions of its audience. Although the band still has some work to do in getting its name out to a wider national audience, Wookiefoot doesn't seem to be in too much of a hurry, preferring instead to go have fun wherever they're welcome.

With tight rhythm sections and plenty of electric guitar, the band offers a dance-worthy but brooding sound that has resonated well with indie music fans all over the world. Having already captured an online audience through various social media outlets, We Were Promised Jetpacks released its debut album These Four Walls in 2009, to widespread acclaim.
