    »Ibsenhuset og Grimstad Bymuseum

The charming town of Grimstad on the southern coast of Norway is home to the first ever museum dedicated to Henrik Ibsen, a legendary playwright and lyricist. The museum, in 1916, was housed inside a former pharmacy called Lars Nielsen, where Henrik Ibsen lived and worked as an assistant from 1844 to 1847. The two story structure dates back to the middle of 18th Century and is comprised of various sections on each floor. The lower floor holds a Grimstad room, which tells us about the city at that time and exhibits an excellent model replica of the same. However, it is the bedroom which is the highlight of the section as this is the place where he lived, and more importantly, wrote his first play Catilina. Various documents and artifacts can be found in this section showcasing his way of living. The upper floor is more inclined towards his works as a poet and playwright with sections comprising of stories and manuscripts of his drama literature. Besides, a room in this section presents a modern database of his work in his lifetime and another is used for hosting various events from time to time. Call or visit their website for more information about group tours and more.
