One of the most ancient and historic treasures of the city of Bergen and to some extent even Norway, is the Bergehus Festning. Popular as Bergen Fortress, the place consists of various ancient buildings which date back to as early as the 12th century. Experiencing landmark milestones, the place is primarily a royal castle containing a grand hall, several cathedrals and a bishop's residence. Having undergone major refurbishments post World War II and a few fortifications after that, the Bergen Festning is now open to general public as a tourist attraction with an inbuilt museum. Local feasts are also held in one of its halls and the Rosenkrantz tower of the fortress is another primary attraction.
