    »Reigning Sound

    September 01, 2014 9:00 PM

Reigning Sound is a garage rock band that was founded in the early 2000s by punk legend Greg Cartwright, who is perhaps best-known for his work with The Oblivians. The band quickly released its debut album Break Up, Break Down, in 2001, capturing a jangly fusion of punk rock riffs and country-tinged melodies. Though the band went on to experiment with threads of pop, classic R&B, psychedelia and soul, Reigning Sound has managed to maintain a signature garage style throughout each of its records, from the loud and raucous Too Much Guitar, to the moody Home For Orphans.

    »Fruition

    September 01, 2014

Fruition is a folk rock outfit that hails from Portland, OR. Weaving Americana textures into a blend of indie rock, blues and soul, the band released an eponymous debut album in 2009 before expanding into a five-piece unit and taking its music on the road. Allowing its trans-America journeys to flavor its songs, Fruition released its 2011 EP, It Won't Be Long, with a rougher, more soulful style. As the band fully realized its new, seasoned style, it dropped its the LP Just One of Them Nights, which earned a dedicated following not only in Portland but across the US.

    »Labor Day Bubbly Q

    September 01, 2014 2:00 PM

Toast your freedom from work with an included split of Chandon champagne at City Winery's third annual Labor Day "Bubbly Q", an all-day affair offering plenty of down-home grub and good old American roots music with Fruition, Old Salt Union and The Way Down Wanderers. Hailing from Portland, Oregon, the bluegrass-infused quintet known as Fruition has played major music festivals and storied venues across the country, as well as releasing their first disc, "Just One of Them Nights", in 2013. Illinois' own Old Salt Union calls their particular brand of alt-country "popgrass," and The Way Down Wanderers, a sextet from Peoria, leans towards a folk-alternative sound. Enjoy the music and 'que from the menu both inside and on City Winery's outdoor patio.
